Standardization and certification at the international level fall to BIS.

भारतीय मानक ब्युरो (BIS) म्हणजे नेमकं काय? आणि ते आपल्यासाठी महत्त्वाचं का आहे?
आपण जेव्हा घरासाठी वस्तू खरेदी करतो – जसं की मिक्सर, कुकर, हेल्मेट किंवा पाण्याची बाटली – तेव्हा तुम्ही कधी त्या वस्तूंवर एक छोटंसं “ISI” किंवा “BIS” असलेलं चिन्ह पाहिलं आहे का? हे चिन्ह फक्त दिसायला नाही, तर त्याचा तुमचं आरोग्य आणि सुरक्षिततेशी थेट संबंध असतो.
BIS, म्हणजेच भारतीय मानक ब्युरो, ही भारत सरकारची एक संस्था आहे जी 1987 साली स्थापन झाली. हिचं मुख्य काम म्हणजे भारतात तयार होणाऱ्या आणि विकल्या जाणाऱ्या वस्तूंचे दर्जा ठरवणे आणि तो दर्जा टिकवून ठेवणं. म्हणजेच, बाजारात आपल्याला मिळणाऱ्या वस्तू या सुरक्षित, टिकाऊ आणि चांगल्या दर्जाच्या असाव्यात, याची खात्री BIS करतं.
आपल्याला सगळ्यात जास्त ओळखीचं वाटणारं चिन्ह म्हणजे ISI मार्क. जेव्हा एखाद्या वस्तूवर ISI चिन्ह असतं, तेव्हा ती वस्तू BIS च्या दर्जा चाचणीत पास झाली आहे, असं समजायचं. उदा. प्रेशर कुकर, हेल्मेट किंवा विजेचे उपकरण – या सगळ्यांवर ISI असणं म्हणजे त्या वस्तू तुमच्यासाठी सुरक्षित आहेत.
BIS फक्त उत्पादनांची तपासणी करत नाही, तर ते सोनं-चांदीच्या दागिन्यांना हॉलमार्कही देतात. BIS हॉलमार्क असलेल्या दागिन्यांचा अर्थ असा की ते सोनं किंवा चांदी खरं आणि शुद्ध आहे.
BIS जनतेचाही सहभाग घेतं – म्हणजे सामान्य नागरिक, उत्पादक, किंवा विद्यार्थीही नवे मानक सुचवू शकतात. शिवाय, ते जनजागृती कार्यक्रमही घेतात, जेणेकरून लोकांना माहित होईल की BIS मार्क असलेली वस्तू खरेदी करणं किती गरजेचं आहे.
आज “मेक इन इंडिया”सारख्या मोहिमांमुळे भारतात उत्पादन वाढतंय, आणि अशावेळी BIS सारख्या संस्थेचं महत्त्व आणखी वाढलं आहे. कारण आपल्या देशात तयार होणाऱ्या वस्तूंनी केवळ देशातच नाही, तर जगातही नाव कमवायला हवं – आणि त्यासाठी दर्जा पक्का असणं फार आवश्यक आहे.
