1. What exactly does a Stenographer do in a government office?
A stenographer mainly listens to speeches, meetings, or official conversations and quickly types them out using shorthand and typing skills. They help in maintaining accurate written records in offices and assist senior officers by preparing documents.
2. Is this job only for experienced people or can freshers also apply?
Freshers are absolutely welcome! As long as you meet the eligibility criteria like educational qualification and skill tests (typing/shorthand), you can apply even if you’re just starting your career.
3. What’s the difference between Grade ‘C’ and Grade ‘D’ posts?
Grade ‘C’ jobs usually offer a slightly higher salary and are mostly posted in major cities. Grade ‘D’ jobs are mostly available in smaller towns and districts. Both are government jobs, but Grade ‘C’ comes under Group B and Grade ‘D’ under Group C.
4. Do I need to know English typing only, or is Hindi also okay?

5. Will I get promoted or stuck in the same post forever?

6. Is there any physical test like in Army or Police recruitment?
No physical test is needed for this post. The focus is on your typing speed, shorthand skill, and written exam performance – not physical fitness.
7. Can I apply if I have a gap year or didn’t work after graduation?
